Have you heard the English spelling rule, “I before E,
except after C” well . . . don’t look now but science is an exception to the
rule! So . . . what about the statement that science measures what can be seen,
touched, heard, smelled and tasted but it can’t measure the beauty of a
crackling bowl of Kellogg's Rice Krispies?
Hebrews 11:1
(KJV)
Faith is the substance of things
hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Sometimes you have to read between the lines of a
statement. That’s what the Amplified Version does; it breaks one or two common
English words and fills in the gaps left out of the original Greek words used
by the New Testament writers.
(AMP)
Faith is the assurance (the
confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of
things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as
real fact what is not revealed to the senses].
Faith is “the proof of things [we] do not see and the
conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed
to the senses].” Science cannot explain how the five senses work. Oh,
scientists can measure brain waves that light up when someone sees or hears but
they cannot fully explain how this happens.
Science
cannot explain how our conscious mind works. Here's the definition:
Consciousness (noun)
(AHMD)
1. The state or condition of
being conscious.
2. A sense of one's personal or
collective identity, especially the complex of attitudes, beliefs, and
sensitivities held by or considered characteristic of an individual or a group.
3. In psychoanalysis, the
conscious.
So what I am proposing is that science has limits just as
theology has limits. How about ending the war between these two disciplines of
thought and combining them. It’s OK to say, “I don’t know,” when you don’t know
the answer to a question; and it’s equally alright to say, “But I know Someone
who does know the answer.” As Andre Crouch so aptly put it, “Jesus is the
Answer!”
