A New Year

They say that every ten years or so we go thru major life changing events. Can you look back at where you were ten years ago. I hope that the new year brings all that you hoped and dreamed for in your life; and that we all may be the expression of Christ to a needy and dying world! Happy New Year!

The Sure Thing

Keeping the sure thing (our original confidence) we started out with is the name of the game for me! How ‘bout you? Coke commercials used to have the jingle, “It’s the real thing!” Well Christ is the real thing (assurance) in all our lives and the devil wants us to get distracted and tripped up.

Hebrews 3:12-14
(MSG)
Watch your step, friends. Make sure there's no evil unbelief lying around that will trip you up and throw you off course, diverting you from the living God. For as long as it's still God's Today, keep each other on your toes so sin doesn't slow down your reflexes. If we can only keep our grip on the sure thing we started out with, we're in this with Christ for the long haul.

(AMP)
For we have become fellows with Christ and share in all He has for us, if only we hold our first newborn confidence and original assured expectation [in virtue of which we are believers] firm and unshaken to the end.

I 'yam what I am, and dats all what I 'yam

Popeye in his first solo cartoon, I Yam What I Am (His first appearance was actually in a Betty Boop cartoon, Popeye the Sailor). While Olive Oyl is rowing a life-boat with Wimpy in the back of the boat (eating big fish) and Popeye in the front singing his I'm Popeye the Sailor Man song with the line "I 'yam what I am, and dats all what I 'yam!" This is exactly how God wants us to respond to adversity in our life. As Oswald Chambers says,

The way we continually talk about our own inability is an insult to the Creator. The deploring of our own incompetence is a slander against God for having overlooked us . . . To say Thank God, I know I am saved and sanctified is in the sight of God the acme of humility . . . (November 30)

1 Corinthians 15:10 (KJV)
But by the grace of God I am what I am . . .

I thank God for who and what I am and I know I am saved and sanctified!

Psalm 127 (KJV)

  1. Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
  2. It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.
  3. Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
  4. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
  5. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

Thanksgiving

I’ve heard many say, “I wonder what the will of God is for my life?” The Bible says,

In everything give thanks for this is the will of God! (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

Grace

I don't know about you but I'm glad God doesn't swat me dead like a fly every time I blow it! What's He do, He gives me His grace - His strength to overcome that sin in my life the next time it rears it's beautiful but deceitful head up again!

"We all did it, all of us doing what we felt like doing, when we felt like doing it, all of us in the same boat. [We're all Bozo's on this bus! -Firesign Theater] It's a wonder God didn't lose his temper and do away with the whole lot of us. Instead, immense in mercy and with an incredible love, he embraced us. He took our sin-dead lives and made us alive in Christ."
–Ephesians 2:3-5 (MSG)

WOW!

Servant of all

Sometimes one has to lay aside their wants in favor of building up others - very painful to do in the soulish realm of the flesh!

Life gets confusing

Sometimes there's just so many bunny-trails that you just want to give up! But not so in Christ; Jesus says, "I am the trail - the truth - and the life." Don't get sidetracked!

Bananas for Jesus!

"Someone who's bananas for Jesus"

That's the definition Keith Green gave during the Jesus West Coast ‘82 concert, of what a Christian is during his song, “Jesus Commands Us To Go!”

[His definition starts at 5:50 and goes to the end of video, the actual quote is @ 6:49]

Home is where the heart is

You know it feels kind of good to be able to eat 3 square meals, have a roof over your head and clothes on your back - what more do we need!
