God Rested On The Seventh Day

Genesis 2:2 (KJV)
He rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
Was God tired? Is that why He rested? No, it means He finished His work!
There are those who start projects only to leave them sitting around to rot in the sun.

Genesis 2:1-4 (MSG)

1 Heaven and Earth were finished, down to the last detail.

2-4 By the seventh day
      God had finished his work.
   On the seventh day
he rested from all his work.
   God blessed the seventh day.
He made it a Holy Day
Because on that day he rested from his work,
all the creating God had done.

God expects us to rest after we complete our tasks, to bless our day of rest! We are to imitate Christ! The reason so many of us are tired and worn out on Sundays is because we aren’t completing what He has called us to do during the week.

One By One Discipleship

One By One Discipleship (Each year it doubles) X 12 members of a church

1 X 2 (One disciple disciples one in one year)             year one       = 2 disciples

2 X 2 (both those disciples disciple one)                     year two       = 4

4 X 2 (all 4 go and make a disciple)                           year 3           = 8

8 X 2 (all 8 go and make a disciple)                           year 4           = 16

16 X 2 (all 16 go and make a disciple)                        year 5           = 32

32 X 2 (all 32 go and make a disciple)                        year 6           = 64

64 X 2 (all 64 go and make a disciple)                        year 7           = 128

128 X 2 (all 128 go and make a disciple)                              year 8           = 256

256 X 2 (all 256 go and make a disciple)                              year 9           = 512

512 X 2 (all 512 go and make a disciple)                              year 10         = 1024

1024 X 2 (all 1024 go and make a disciple)                year 11         = 2048

2048 X 2 (all 2048 go and make a disciple)                year 12         = 4096 disciples

Over 4,000 disciples in 12 years!

Can you remember where you were with the Lord 12 years ago? Just think, now, how many souls can be touched by your life in the next twelve years!

Matthew 28:19-20 (AMP)
Go then and make disciples . . . teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you.
Jesus didn’t say to fill the pews with new converts – NO! He said to go make disciples. His command is to live a disciplined life submitted to the Holy Spirit that will rub off on those around us.
John 15: 7 (AMP)
If you live in Me—abide vitally connected to Me—and My words remain in you and continue to live in you hearts, ask whatever you will and it shall be done for you.

This does not mean to ask for things (the context is discipleship) Ask for godly character—His fruit! Ask, “What is Your will?” God wants us to be molded (by discipleship) into the image of His Son!

John 15: 8-9 (AMP)
8 When you bear (produce) much fruit My Father is honored and glorified, and you show and prove yourselves to be true followers of Mine. 9 I have loved you [just] as the Father has loved me; abide in My love—continue in His love with Me.

Continue in the love plant that the Father has planted, keep the vine growing! Let it spread through you to others. Continue in the vine with Me!

John 15: 10-12 (AMP)
10 If you keep my commandments—if you continue to obey my instructions (if you transform your mind by the discipline you have learned from Me) [see Romans 12:1-2] —you will abide in my love and live on in it; just as I have obeyed My Father’s commandments and live on in His love.

11 I have told you these things that My joy and delight may be in you, (remember, this is what we prayed for back in verse 7 – godly character/fruit) and that your joy and gladness may be full measure and complete and overflowing.

12 This is My commandment, that you love one another [just] as I have loved you.

John 13: 35 (KJV)
By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Sheep beget sheep, disciples beget disciples! New converts aren’t going to be transformed into radical disciples of Christ by a bunch of sour pusses! If we are going to turn the world upside down the gladness in our hearts has got to go viral! True Christianity is contagious!

Go and make disciples! Go, lay down your life and love someone thru to complete transformation and discipleship!

By This Shall All Men See God

John 13:35

King James Version (KJV)
35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

1 John 4:12

King James Version (KJV)
12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

The world cannot see God directly, but they see God when we love one another!

1 John 5:13
(AMP) I write this to you who (adhere to like glue) and believe in the name of the Son of God—that is [believe] in the peculiar services and blessings conferred by Him on men—so that you may know (with settled mind and absolute knowledge) that you [already] have life, yes eternal life [that which makes God, God – the same kind of life He has, the same quality. Eternal because it can’t be stopped!]

Hebrews 7:24-25
(AMP) [Jesus] holds His priesthood unchangeably because He lives on forever. Therefore He is able also to save to the uttermost—completely, perfectly, finally and for all time and eternity—those who come to God through Him, since He is always living to make petition to God and intercede with Him and intervene for them.

John 10:27-28
(AMP) The sheep that are My own hear and are listening to My voice, and I know them and they [know Me] and follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never lose it or perish throughout the ages—to all eternity they shall never by any means be destroyed. And no one is able to snatch them out of My hand.

Can you lose your salvation by screwing up? Jesus says they shall never lose it! Who are you to think that you can pluck yourself out of His hands? He says no one can pluck you out of His hands—no one—not even you!

Confess Your Faults

There’s not much apparent power in the lives of believers today, in fact, as Chaplain Bob would say, “most Christians don’t have enough power to blow the fuzz off of a peach.”

James 5:16
(KJV)
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

We need the healing of our pride to fess up with our faults.

(AMP)
Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart]. The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working].

It is said that King David was a man after God’s own heart, so what happened after he sent an innocent man to the front lines to be killed so as to cover up David’s affair with the man’s wife? David was confronted by the prophet who said that “David” was the man!”

Did David cover-up his sin after being called out on the carpet? No, David repents and cries,

Psalm 51:4
(KJV)
Against You, You only, have I sinned and done that which is evil in Your sight, so that You are justified in Your sentence and faultless in Your judgment . . . Create in me a clean heart O God, and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.”

Test the waters. Find a friend to confide in. Don’t cast your pearls before swine, not everybody can be trusted. There are wolves in sheep’s clothing. Ask for wisdom, and God will not only show you who to talk with, but also just how much to reveal.

James 1:5-8
(KJV)
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

When we let our defenses down and fess up with one another, and pray, it makes tremendous power available (dunamis in the Greek) a dynamic dynamo that generates awesome power! Power to trample on any obstacle the devil can muster!

It’ll take some hide off of us, as the disciples found out the night Jesus was betrayed. Eleven of them finally got it, that discipleship means more than being right all the time:

Matthew 26:22
(KJV)
And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?

This is where the rubber meets the road, when we stop The Blame Game and fess up our faults!

Galatians 6:3-5
(KJV)
3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.

4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.

5 For every man shall bear his own burden.

There is safety in being honest with one another. If you don’t have anyone you can trust, email me at classicdevotionals@gmail.com – all correspondence will be in held the strictest confidence and respect. Test the waters!

Don't Let The Sun Go Down

I don’t know about you but I think there is a spirit of offense in the land. People get offended over the silliest things; but to let it fester for two or three weeks, and say that you’re hurt, please excuse me if this offends you—but that’s anger! I've heard it said that depression is “anger turned inward.”

Ephesians 4:26
(AMP)
When angry, do not sin; do not ever let your wrath (your exasperation, your fury or indignation) last until the sun goes down.

We must refuse to let even righteous indignation last the night! I like what the Messes You Up Bible says,

(MSG)
26-27 Go ahead and be angry. You do well to be angry—but don't use your anger as fuel for revenge. And don't stay angry. Don't go to bed angry. Don't give the Devil that kind of foothold in your life.

Or as Yoda says, “Fear leads to anger; anger leads to hate; hate leads to suffering.”

I Don't Trust My Mind

Socrates says, “The unexamined life is not worth living.” I don’t trust my mind. There is nothing so sacred in my beliefs that they can’t be questioned. Chaplain Bob Beets says, “Overthrow the government of your head!”

Proverbs 3:5
(KJV)
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Something else Chaplain Bob says, “If I don't trust me (and my flesh;) Why should I trust you? (and your flesh!)

A Friend That Sticks Closer Than A Brother

By birth I have two sisters and two brothers. By spirit I have untold millions of brothers and sisters. In the natural I know if I get in a fight with my brother things will work out: cause we will always be brothers.

Why do we drop each other in the body of Christ faster than a hot potato? I should be able to tell you that you got a big booger hanging from your nose right before you’re about to propose to your fiancĂ©.

2 Timothy 4:1-5
(AMP)
1 I charge [you] in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, Who is to judge the living and the dead, and by (in the light of) His coming and His kingdom:
2 Herald and preach the Word! Keep your sense of urgency [stand by, be at hand and ready], whether the opportunity seems to be favorable or unfavorable. [Whether it is convenient or inconvenient, whether it is welcome or unwelcome, you as preacher of the Word are to show people in what way their lives are wrong.] And convince them, rebuking and correcting, warning and urging and encouraging them, being unflagging and inexhaustible in patience and teaching.
3 For the time is coming when [people] will not tolerate (endure) sound and wholesome instruction, but, having ears itching [for something pleasing and gratifying], they will gather to themselves one teacher after another to a considerable number, chosen to satisfy their own liking and to foster the errors they hold,
4 And will turn aside from hearing the truth and wander off into myths and man-made fictions.
5 As for you, be calm and cool and steady, accept and suffer unflinchingly every hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fully perform all the duties of your ministry.

Did you get what verse two says, “Whether it is convenient or inconvenient, whether it is welcome or unwelcome.”

So, the point I am making is, Do you want to be a casual acquaintance or a deep friend closer than a brother? Your choice! Even if we fight we should be able to make up,

Proverbs 18:24
(AMP)
The man of many friends [a friend of all the world] will prove himself a bad friend, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
